Machine Learning with Dataiku
Dataiku is a data science software platform that enables extensive data preparation and powerful machine learning via a visual interface. Using the platform, one can very efficiently create prototypes using visual click, drag and drop and/or through coding interfaces.
An expert from Dataiku.com introduces the tool and guides participants through a series of hands on tutorials with Kaggle competition data. At the conclusion of this event, attendees will have a foundation to apply for a level 1 certificate that can be applied to professional profiles such as LinkedIn.

Target group
- Students and employees of the University of Bern. Graduates and professionals enrolled for the CAS Applied Data Science. Others.
- University or University of Applied Sciences level degree (bachelor, master, Phd). Basic machine learning knowledge and experience. For example Bern Winter School on Machine Learning.
- Own laptop with browser (Firefox and Chrome supported). No other software installation needed.
- A commitment and evidence of submission for the Dataiku level 1 certification is a prerequisite requirement for enrollment in this course.
- Tutorial, project competition, multiple choice test.

Friday 2020-02-14
09:00 - 10:30: Introduction to the dataiku ecosystem, including demonstration of key features.
11:00 - 12:30: Hands on exercise building a first Machine Learning pipeline, from data ingestion, through data preparation to predictions.
12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
13:30 - 15:00 Introduction to deep learning applications within dataiku
15:30 - 18:30 Continuation of hands-on application with deep learning use case and/or additional Kaggle competition project with dataiku. Information on how to seek level 1 certification.
Some days later:
- Attendees should submit an application for Dataiku level 1 certification comprised of an online multiple choice test quiz and a completed hands-on machine learning challenge (details on the submission process will be provided).

Jay Narhan
Jay’s professional background includes over a decade working in the humanitarian sector on technology and data-driven issues. He is now part of the Data Science team with Dataiku (a Gartner 2019 Magic Quadrant Machine Learning company) where he works on internal Machine Learning projects and with clients from multiple industries on the use and productionization of AI tools.
PD Dr. Sigve Haug
Sigve studied physics in Germany, Spain and Norway. He has been involved in neutrino physics experiments and high energy frontier experiments, often with main focus on the computing challenges related to the large and distributed data from these experiments. Today he is working for the Albert Einstein Center for fundamental Physics and the Mathematical Institute of the University of Bern where is leading the Science IT Support unit.
