2023-09-11 Computer Vision with Python: interactive visualization with napari (a MIC-DSL course)

In this course you will discover the Python visualization tool napari both to visualize images and to create your own user interface.

Computer Vision with Python: interactive visualization with napari (a MIC-DSL course)
napari is a fast, interactive, multi-dimensional image viewer for Python. It’s designed for browsing, annotating, and analyzing large multi-dimensional images. It includes critical viewer features out-of-the-box, such as support for large multi-dimensional data, and layering and annotation. By integrating closely with the Python ecosystem, napari can be easily coupled to leading machine learning and image analysis tools (e.g. scikit-image, PyTorch etc.), enabling more user-friendly automated analysis. In addition, its user-interface can easily be customized via plugins. In this course we will explore both the basic functioning of napari and learn how to create simple user-interfaces. The course focuses on bioimaging applications but can be of interest for anyone working with images.
This course is part of the Microscopy Imaging Center training series. It is embedded in the DSL program so that participants without previous Python experience can easily attend "2023-09-04 Computer Vision with Python: basics with numpy and scikit-image".
Course Objectives
At the end of the course you will know:
  • How to install napari and its extensions
  • How to use the different layers of napari (images, annotations etc.)
  • How to interact with napari from interactive code like Jupyter
  • How to create small user-interfaces in napari
Target group
  • Students and Staff of UniBe.
  • Participants must bring own laptops
  • Participants should have a version of conda (anaconda, miniconda, miniforge etc.) installed
  • You should be familiar with Python and the scientific stack. If not please attend the course on Monday "2023-09-04 Computer Vision with Python: basics with numpy and scikit-image"
The course is interactive with live demonstrations followed by hands-on sessions where participants get to apply what they just learned.
  • A certificate will be delivered to participants who have attended the whole training.
  • Guillaume Witz is a Data scientist and software engineer in bio-imaging at University of Bern.
