Abstract. STACK is an open-source online assessment package designed for STEM subjects. In this introduction, we will explore its unique features that set it apart from default quiz questions found in learning management systems such as ILIAS or Moodle. Specifically, we will demonstrate how to create exercises with random parameters and automatic feedback, as well as how to set up the evaluation of subsequent subtasks to avoid penalising follow-up errors. Additionally, we will test the tool's ability to evaluate mathematically equivalent but textually different answers. Finally, we will briefly discuss the potential of learning analytics that can be gleaned from student data generated by online quizzes.
