Various subsidy regimes are analysed in relation to the WTO Agreement on Countervailing Measures. It concludes with a discussion of potential outcomes of future negotiations on these issues and how the economic crisis has affected recourse to contingent protection measures.

• Students should understand the basics of Trade Defense Instruments (TDI), including the practical differences between the application of the three (Antidumping, Safeguards, Countervailing Measures).
• Students should understand how TDI investigations are conducted.
• Students should understand the basics of dumping/subsidy and injury margin calculations.
