2026-02-16 Introduction to Computer Vision with Python: scikit-image (09:00-17:00)

Learn the basic tools to handle image in Python and apply classical image processing methods to them.

Reiter

Computer Vision with Python: basics with numpy and scikit-image

You already know basics of Python programming and would like to know how to perform computer vision tasks in Python? In this course you will learn how to perform essential image processing tasks using the scikit-image library (filtering, segmentation, object measurement). Additionally, other libraries useful for image processing such as Pillow or napari will be briefly presented.

This course assumes basic knowledge of Python and Numpy. If you aren't familiar with these, please attend the Introduction to Data Science with Python in the same DSL Trainings Winter session.

Course Objectives

  • Learn basics of handing images as Numpy arrays
  • Learn how to use the scikit-image library
  • Discover other packages of potential interest (Pillow, napari etc.)

Target group

  • Students and Staff of UniBe.

Prerequisites

  • Participants must bring own laptops
  • Participants should have a version of conda (anaconda, miniconda, miniforge etc.) installed
  • Participants should be familiar but not experts with Python and Numpy.

Methods

The course is interactive with live demonstrations followed by hands-on sessions where participants get to apply what they just learned.

Certificate

  • A certificate will be delivered to participants who have attended the whole training.

Coaches

  • Guillaume Witz is a Data scientist and software engineer in bio-imaging at University of Bern.
