Spark for users

Apache Spark is a unified analytics engine for big data processing,
with built-in modules for streaming, SQL, machine learning and graph
processing.

This course features an introduction to programming Spark through its
Python interface.  Hands-on sessions will alternate with talks
outlining basic concepts of Spark and its API.  Participants will have
access to a Spark cluster with a Jupyter notebook interface where to
run hands-on sessions and experiments.

  • Overview of the Map/Reduce paradigm
  • basic Spark computation: RDDs, transformations, actions
  • DataFrames, SQL support in Spark
  • Window functions
Target group
  • UNIBE staff, students and externals who are considering using Spark.
Prerequisites
  • The participants bring their own laptops.
Methods
  • The training alternates between short theoretical inputs and exercises.
Certificate 
  • A certificate will be delivered to participants who have attended the whole training.

  • The coaches are local and external experts.
