Manual: Archiving materials from ILIAS
This manual explains how you can archive materials and objects in ILIAS. Without archiving, your materials would be lost after their automatic deletion (after 6 years). Save the content you wish to keep locally on your device so you can access it even after you have finished studying.

1. Download files
You can download individual files or a ZIP package of several files.
Go to the course that contains the files.
Click on the «Actions» menu in the top right corner.
Select «Download Multiple Objects».
Select the folders and files you want to download. When you download folders, only the files contained in the folder are downloaded. Other objects, such as links, learning modules, or forums, cannot be downloaded.
Click «Download» at the top or bottom of the page. |
.
2. Export materials as XML or HTML
All ILIAS objects can be exported as an XML package. XML exports can be imported to ILIAS at the University of Bern or to another ILIAS installation (Add object >, e.g., learning module > Option 2: Import ILIAS learning module).
You must have the appropriate permissions (e.g., a “Course administrator” role) to use this option.
Go to the course that contains the object you want to export.
Open the «Actions» menu to the right of the object.
Select «Settings». | |
Go to the «Export» tab. | |
Select the export type you want and click «Create Export File».
Then click on the «Download» link to download. |
Some objects can be exported as HTML files (e.g., learning modules, glossaries, portfolios). In this case, the HTML file can be opened and viewed in any browser.
.
3. Copy/move materials
If you wish to reuse the content or continue to make it available in ILIAS, you can move or copy the objects to a current course or to an ILIAS workgroup.
In ILIAS's iTools (www.itools.unibe.ch), you can create a workgroup or request a workspace. If you encounter problems due to missing permissions when moving or copying contents, please feel free to contact the [xln url=“mailto: ilias@unibe.ch”]iLUB support[/xln]. Please note, however, that content from the iTools will also be deleted after a certain period (after 6 years in the Portal Point and after one year in the Collab Corner).
Go to the course that contains the object you want to move/copy.
Open the «Actions» menu to the right of the object.
Select «Move» or «Copy».
Select the location where you want to insert the object (usually a course or a group).
Click «Continue» or «Paste».
If you want to copy a folder, select the objects to be copied, linked, or omitted and then click «Copy».
Alternatively, you can also click «Insert to Clipboard» and then manually navigate to the location where you want to insert the object in the «Content» tab > sub-tab «Manage». |
