1. Create a weblink

Click on «Add New Item».
Select «Weblink».
Select a «Type».
  • «Single Weblink»: A single link will be created in the ILIAS course room. You can choose whether you want to link to a web page or an ILIAS item. When you click on the link, the target page or object opens in a new window.
Link to a web page: Enter the URL of the target page.
Linking to an ILIAS item: Click on «Select Target Object». In the drop-down menu, select whether you want to link a magazine object, a glossary term from a glossary, or a page from a learning module. Then select the desired item from the tree structure.
A link to a location within ILIAS only works if your course members also have access to that location in ILIAS.
  • «Weblink List»: A link collection is created in the ILIAS course room. In this collection, you can create several web links. Clicking on the collection opens the list of links. Via these links, the different target pages can be accessed.
Give the link or list a «Title».
Click on «Add Weblink».

Manage single weblinks

For single weblinks, you can edit the contents and adjust their appearance in the ILIAS course room.

Edit the contents of single weblinks
Go to the «Content» tab. 
If you are outside the weblink, open the actions menu and select «Edit Content». 
If you are already inside the weblink, go to the «Content» tab and from there to the «Manage» sub-tab. 
To convert a single link into a weblink list, click «Set to Weblink List». You can then add more links (see 2.2. Manage weblink lists.
You can change the title of the weblink.
You can change the URL of the weblink.
Uncheck the «Activ» option if you want the link to be visible in the ILIAS course room but not clickable.
Check the «Disable Validation» option if you do not want ILIAS to automatically check the link's validity.
If ILIAS finds an invalid link, they will be displayed in the «Weblink Check» tab. Click «Refresh» to see if there are any invalid links.
«Save» your settings.

Adjust the appearance of single weblinks
Go to the «Settings» tab.
If you are outside the weblink, open the actions menu and select «Settings». 
If you are already inside the weblink, go to the «Settings» tab. 
Under «Tile Image» you can upload a tile image for the weblink (see also Manual: Tile design). 
When inserting images, please follow the recommended image sizes (see Notes on image sizes on ILIAS).
«Save» your settings.

Manage weblink lists

For weblink lists, you can edit the included links and adjust the settings.

Edit links in a weblink list
Go to the «Content» tab. 
If you are outside the weblink list, open the actions menu and select «Edit Content». 
If you are already inside the weblink list, go to the «Content» tab and from there to the «Manage» sub-tab. 
To add a link to a link list, click «Add Weblink» and follow the same steps as described under 1. Create a weblink.
You can change the title of the weblink.
You can change the URL of the weblink.
Uncheck the «Activ» option if you don't want the link to be visible in the link list.
Check the «Disable Validation» option if you do not want ILIAS to automatically check the link's validity.

If you are outside the weblink list, open the actions menu and select «Settings». 
If you are already inside the weblink list, go to the «Settings» tab. 
You can change the title of the weblink list.
Under «Tile Image» you can upload a tile image for the weblink. This will be displayed in the container object (course, group or folder) in which the weblink is located if the «Tile View» is activated for this container (see also Manual: Course, Manual: Group, Manual: Folder). When inserting images, please follow the recommended image sizes (see Notes on image sizes on ILIAS).
Select how you want the links in the list to be sorted.
«Save» your settings.

Restrict availability

You can set the period in which the weblink can be accessed. Outside this period, the weblink cannot be accessed.
Go to the location on ILIAS where you have stored the weblink.
Open the weblink's actions menu.
Select «Availability».
Activate the «Temporarily available» option and enter the period during which you want the weblink to be accessible.
If checked, the weblink is visible outside the designated availability but cannot be accessed.
«Save» your settings.
