DESIGN
ILIAS offers a variety of possibilities to customize your course room. In the settings, for example, you can activate the tile view and bundle content with item groups. Using the page editor, backgrounds, images, etc., can be inserted and displayed side by side with the help of the column layout. Here you can find some examples from the teaching practice at the University of Bern. In the Design Guide you will find practical information on designing your learning environments.
In the demo courses below, much but not all content is accessible. Therefore, you may not have clickable elements at one point or another or see screenshots of the original course instead of the original materials.

If you like design elements and would like to use them, please get in touch with us at: info.ilub@unibe.ch

Ressourcenorientierte
Pädagogische Psychologie

Faculty of Human Sciences
This seminar is designed as a block course and was conducted over six days hybrid online and on site. The seminar includes both units for conveying the seminar contents and group work in which the students produce their own eLearning unit. For support, pre-workshop meetings are conducted Videotutorials are provided.
Detailed information on the seminar schedule can be found in German in the course concept (PDF).
All information and materials needed for the seminar are available to students on ILIAS.
The course contains a main course page. Here central documents and the course subpages (e.g. for the respective block days) are linked. On the main page, the content was divided into 3-4 columns using the page editor and supplemented with suitable images. Headings were highlighted in color. The links to the subpages were also inserted using the page editor.
In addition, there are two central folders under the main course page, which are not visible to students. One folder contains all materials that are linked in the course. The structure of the folder reflects the structure of the course. The second folder contains all ILIAS subpages that the course contains (e.g. for the block days one subpage each).

Das
Thoraxtrauma

Faculty of Medicine
This lecture takes place once a semester and was implemented as an interactive presentation by the lecturer on site.
Through a case study, an interactive element was integrated into the session: At the beginning, the patient was introduced, and questions were asked about the patient's health condition and treatment options throughout the session.
The case study alternates with theory blocks in which the relevant content is presented.
The entire content of the on-site lecture was designed in ILIAS.
For this purpose, an ILIAS folder was filled with the contents of the lecture, including images, videos, and LiveVotings on the case study. Using the page editor and column layout, all elements were placed in the corresponding place and on a white or colored background. A custom style was created for the color accents and backgrounds.
The theory blocks, which refer to the respective voting questions, were hidden in an ILIAS folder in so-called accordions. Hence, their contents are only visible to the students after they have opened them.

English on the Isle of Men:
A Data Collection Excursion

Faculty of Humanities
This seminar is taught in three parts.
The first part consists of three preparatory sessions to introduce the topic and clarify practical issues.
The second part is the field trip, during which the students collect data independently.
In the third part, the students present their experiences at a conference.
Using the page editor, a suitable image was inserted into the course room as a header.
The course room was divided into three parts.
The first part contains folders with relevant materials for the preparatory sessions. For all three folders, separate, thematically matching tiles were created.
In the second part, students can find the agenda and important practical information for the excursion. These were integrated into two columns and fold-out accordions using the page editor to save space.
The third part relates to the conference and includes the schedule as well as exercises and folders where students have to upload their materials and assessments. Custom-designed tiles are used here as well.

Competencies for
the (digital) future

Vice-Rectorate Teaching
The project contains several two-hour online learning units that are run without tutorial support. In the learning units, participants watch short video inputs and actively engage with the respective topic themselves (quizzes, exercises, in-depth assignments).
As a test of learning success, a final test must be completed, which can be repeated three times.
Upon successful completion, a certificate of completion can be downloaded.
Detailed information on the concept of the learning units can be found in the course concept (PDF).
The landing page of the whole project was designed using the page editor. A custom style was developed for this purpose. The learning units are displayed as tiles on this landing page and are stand-alone ILIAS courses.
The individual learning units were also designed entirely with the help of the page editor and the same style.
Via linked images, text passages, or blocks, participants access all materials (e.g., test, survey, learning module, file) incorporated in the learning unit. For example, clicking on the tile "Introductory questions" (implemented as a linked block) takes you to the corresponding ILIAS test.
The actual materials are located in a hidden item group.
