ILIAS Support (English)

Reiter

Provide content for self-study with self-assessments

SCENARIO

Provide content for self-study with self-assessments

SITUATION

  • Students are supposed to acquire or extend content and knowledge independently and check it with the help of self-tests.
  • The contents should be collected and presented in one place.

IMPLEMENTATION

Example from the Vetsuisse Faculty

  • A learning module is created
  • The learning module is divided into several chapters with individual pages
  • In the individual chapters, the learning contents are presented using different media (text, visualizations with pictures, videos, audio, files)
  • Comprehension questions are inserted for all relevant content, e.g., after a single paragraph or a page
  • Final comprehension questions are defined as preconditions for further content
  • Students can access the learning module in the ILIAS course and work through the chapters autonomously. They can only access the following content if they correctly answered the previous content's concluding self-assessment questions.

Example from the Faculty of Science

  • A learning sequence is created
  • Within the learning sequence, the learning content is presented on content pages using various media (text, visualizations with images, videos, audio, files)
  • Within the learning sequence, exercises are created in which students have to apply the knowledge they have acquired
  • Content pages and exercises are put in a meaningful order; the exercises follow a more complex input, e.g., several content pages
  • Students can access the learning sequence in the ILIAS course and work through it autonomously

Student perspective: exercise on the learning content

Example from the Vetsuisse Faculty

  • An Opencast series is created
  • In the series, the relevant videos that contain the learning content will be uploaded
  • In addition, a test is created
  • Students can access the videos in the ILIAS course and watch them autonomously.
  • Afterward, students take the test autonomously
  • Lecturers can view the overall test results; the results can be used to focus the content of the in-class session on what has not yet been understood
  • If required, students can also watch the videos without necessarily having to take the self-assessment
